Explanation of Terms related to Web Hosting
Web Space - The more disk space you have the more files, pages, emails, and more everything your account will be able to store on our server.
Bandwidth - Bandwidth can be best described as fuel for a car. If your website runs out of bandwidth nobody will be able to visit it. 1GB of bandwidth is equal to over 100,000 hits. The average account with us uses less than 2 GB of bandwidth a month. Your bandwidth number used will reset back to zero on the first of every month.
Mail Boxes – An email box (also email mailbox, e-mailbox) is the equivalent of a letter box for electronic mail. It is the destination where electronic mail messages are delivered.
Databases – A database is a system intended to organize, store, and retrieve large amounts of data easily. It consists of an organized collection of data for one or more uses

Platform – A computing platform is some sort of hardware architecture and software framework (including application frameworks) that allows software to run. Typical platforms include a computer’s architecture, operating system, programming languages and related user interface (run-time system libraries or graphical user interface).

Domains – A domain name is an identification label that defines a realm of administrative autonomy, authority, or control in the Internet. Domain names are also hostnames that identify Internet Protocol (IP) resources such as web sites. Domain names are formed by the rules and procedures of the Domain Name System (DNS).

Instant Backup - Our control panel gives you to option to make an ‘instant’ backup of your entire cPanel account. It will archive your account and provide you with a link to download the backup. You can then use this backup file to restore your account on our servers if need be.
This backup gets everything associated with your account: e-mail accounts (including the passwords and messages still on the system), FTP accounts, add-on/sub/parked domains, databases, mailing lists, EVERYTHING that is setup with the account.

Parked Domains – You have two domains mysite.com and my-other-site.com. If you use mysite.com as the domain of your website and you want to “overlay” my-other-site.com so that whicheever address is used thet both to go to the same place. In other words, when someone types either www.mysite.com or www.my-other-site.com they will go to the same page(s) on your website and abc@mysite.com and abc@my-other-site.com will both deliver to the same mailbox.
Add-On Domains – You have two domains mysite.com and my-other-site.com. You want the two domains to be totally separate/independent websites. Add-on domains creates a subdomain where you can store all the files or install a content management system to show my-other-site.com (In order to have additional add-on domains you need to own them or purchase them using our domain registrar service).
Anonymous FTP - Anonymous ftp allows the public to download or view files in a specified directory. (no login required)
Sub Domains - A normal domain name looks like www.domain.com a sub domain looks like sub.domain.com For example forums.enterprisehost.co.uk is a sub domain name of our site enterprisehost.co.uk
FTP Accounts - FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol. Having multiple FTP accounts will allow you to give friends and employees their own FTP account. This will allow you to give them as little or as much access to your website as you choose.

CGI - CGI stands for Common Gateway Interface. CGI is one method by which a web server can obtain data from (or send data to) databases, documents, and other programs, and present that data to viewers via the web.
More simply, a CGI script is a program intended to be run on the web. A CGI program can be written in any programming language, but Perl is one of the most popular. On our servers you will get a cgi-bin directory that your scripts should normally be uploaded to, however your CGI scripts will work both inside and outside of this directory.
Fast CGI - FastCGI is a method to improve the speed of almost any scripting language we support, including Ruby, Python, Perl, and PHP.
PHP5 - PHP is a server side HTML embedded scripting language. All accounts come with support for 5.2.0
Ruby On Rails - Ruby On Rails is an open-source web framework that’s built for productivity.
SSH - Secure Shell or SSH is a network protocol that allows data to be exchanged using a secure channel between two networked devices available for an additional charge.
Perl - Perl is one of the most common CGI scripting languages used today. We have version 5.8.7 currently installed on our servers.
Python - Python is a programming/scripting language that can be used on many different computers and operating systems.
SSI - Server Side includes, refers to Perl based HTML commands that direct a server to generate on-the-fly contact for web pages.
Cron - Crontab is a process in Unix systems that uses a Daemon called cron to execute commands for the user at a certain time.
Frontpage - We support all version of Microsoft FrontPage. Frontpage is a website creation tool that can be used to both create and upload your site when FP extensions are installed.
Curl - Curl is a command line tool for transferring files with url syntax.
GD2 - GD 2 is an ANSI library dynamic creation of images. GD 2 creates PNG and JPEG images, among other formats. We stay up to date with the latest GD version.
Image Magick - ImageMagick is a robust collection of tools and libraries to read, write, and manipulate an image in many formats. We stay up to date on the latest version.
Streaming Audio/Video - We support Windows Media, Quicktime, and Real Media player allowing you to run streaming audio and video.
Free Module Installation - Need a special module for your program to work? We will review requests for custom modules within 24 hours.
POP3 Accounts - This is the number of POP accounts you get. POP accounts are used to send and receive emails through programs such as Outlook Express or Eudora.
Web Mail - We include squirrel, horde, and round cube with all our hosting packages . Web mail allows you to send and receive emails online by going to yoursite.com/webmail
E-Mail Alias - Mail box aliases will allow you to setup multiple email addresses to go to a single mail box.
Auto Responders - You can setup your email addresses so when they receive mail they will automatically reply back with your message.
Mailing Lists - Have a group of people you regularly mail? Add them to a mailing list so you can email them faster and easier.
Catch Alls - A catch all email address will receive all emails delivered to non existent email addresses.

Spam Assassin - If you enable Spam Assasin it will block most spam from reaching your e-mail.
Mail Forwarding - You can setup a mail forwarder. Doing this will forward all your mail to any email address you wish.
IMAP Support - We support Internet Message Access Protocol. “IMAP permits a “client” email program to access remote message stores as if they were local.”
SMTP - We allow you to use our servers to send outgoing mail.

To use fantastico you or your client will just login to their control panel click fantastico, and then click one of the 50+ scripts to be installed such as Blogs, Portals/CMS, Customer Support, desks, forums & shopping carts.

Raw Log Manager – You will have access to download your sites raw logs.
Referrer Logs – The referrer log will tell you what sites your traffic is coming from.
Error Logs – The error log will tell you if anyone is getting errors and where.
Shared SSL – We will provide your site with a self assigned shared SSL. SSL encrypts confidential data such as credit card numbers and passwords. Either a shared SSL or a private SSL is required when taking credit cards off your site.
